Architectural Metalwork
Here is a selection of private architectural work such as gates, balustrade and security grills etc.
Please select individual pictures for large image and further information.
And see "Public work" for more railings and gates.
I have tried to feature work of my own designs to emphasise the creative end of my portfolio.
I do offer a fabrication service in mild and stainless steel and regularly carry out commissions for architects and interior designers.
When designing work I enjoy reflecting my fine art training whilst still allowing a suitably practical approach to the specific ergonomic requirements of a functional piece.
I am interested in creating pieces that allow a sculptural freeform quality to flow through the structure of the design.
I try to avoid using the traditional formulae of wrought iron work and re interpret it with a fresh perspective.
I believe that one can breakdown the format with which the structure of a design (for say railings) is composed.
Ideally the aesthetic quality of the design is integral with its structure rather than the process of embellishing a straightforward format with decorative elements.
There is an interesting balance created with trying to do this whilst acknowledging the fairly tight practical constraints imposed by the necessary function of the design and the need to comply with building regulations etc.
